Undergraduate instructed workshop, Becoming comfortable using a sewing machine

Undergraduate instructed workshop, Becoming comfortable using a sewing machine

Learn different stitches, speed control, and seam allowance in this intermediate skills sewing machine workshop. Undergraduates, Caroline Solomon and Casey Serrano, will teach this workshop. Come learn from your peers!

Caroline is a fourth year studying Environmental Economics & Management and Russian. She is president of UGA’s Fashion Design Student Association and was project lead for the Close the Loop Sustainability Grant project. Close the Loop worked to combat fast fashion and reduce clothing waste through sewing repair workshops. Project partners included the Swap Shop, Fair Fashion UGA, and other student organizations. She has several years of experience in machine and hand-sewing, clothing construction, and mending.

Casey is a Makerspace student assistant and fourth year Geography student. Casey wants all students to feel confident using makerspace equipment. Casey was awarded UGA Student Employee of the Year in 2022 in part for their work creating project-based tutorials for the laser cutter and hand embroidery kits. In addition to experience designing and fabricating with 3D printers, a vinyl cutter, and laser cutter, Casey has many years of hand and machine sewing experience.

This workshop is free and open to all UGA undergraduates. Limited to 10 participants. Supplies provided. Please RSVP on the McBay Science Library Makerspace calendar.
